Privacy Policy — Vertical Forecast

Last updated: 30 July 2026

Vertical Forecast (“the app”) is a home-screen weather widget published by Innovamyhead (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app does with information. In short: the app has no user accounts, runs no servers of our own, shows no ads, and contains no analytics or tracking. The only information that ever leaves your device is what is needed to fetch a weather forecast, and it goes directly to the weather service you choose.

Information the app handles

Location (optional). If you turn on “use my phone’s location,” the app reads your device’s approximate (coarse) location using Android’s built-in location service and sends those coordinates to the weather service you have selected, over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, solely to retrieve the forecast for your area. To show a place name in the widget header, the coordinates are also passed to Android’s built-in geocoder, which is part of your device’s operating system and may, depending on your device, contact your device manufacturer’s or Google’s geocoding service. You can avoid device location entirely by choosing a fixed location instead (see below).

Place search (optional). If you search for a city instead of using your device location, the text you type is sent to the Photon geocoding service (operated by komoot, based on OpenStreetMap data) to find matching places. The coordinates of the place you pick are then used to fetch the forecast.

Weather-provider API keys (optional). The default weather source (MET Norway) needs no account or key. If you choose a provider that requires your own API key (OpenWeatherMap, WeatherAPI.com, or Tomorrow.io), that key is stored only on your device and is sent only to that provider to authenticate your forecast requests. We never receive it.

Settings and cached forecast. Your widget settings (including any location you choose) and the most recent forecast are stored locally on your device so the widget can display them. This data stays on the device and is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to any personal information. The app contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking technologies, and no third-party SDKs that profile you. We do not operate servers that receive your data, and we never sell or share data for advertising or marketing.

Who your data is shared with

Forecast and location data is sent only to the weather service you have selected, to provide the forecast you requested. Each service has its own privacy policy:

Only the service you actually use receives any data. If you stay on the default (MET Norway), no other weather provider is ever contacted. Weather data is used under the CC BY 4.0 license; place data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, under ODbL.

Data security

All network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections; the app does not permit unencrypted (cleartext) traffic. Data stored on your device is kept in the app’s private storage, which Android isolates from other apps, and is excluded from cloud backup.

Data retention and deletion

All app data is stored locally. Removing a widget from your home screen deletes that widget’s saved settings. Uninstalling the app removes all data the app has stored, including any saved API keys and cached forecasts. Because we hold no data on any server, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children’s privacy

The app is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect any information from children.
